From the Pampas to Patagonian glaciers

Accessible travel in Argentina

Argentina showcases an extraordinary diversity of natural landscapes. Towering Patagonian glaciers, vast pampean plains, the mighty Andes mountain range, and a multitude of rainforests, lakes, mighty rivers and spectacular waterfalls. The territory presents dramatic contrasts, from arid Patagonian plateaus to the lush yungas of the north. The greatest changes in relief occur as we move from west to east, where the landscape encompasses the highest Andean peaks in the Americas, intermountain valleys, extensive central plains, Atlantic coastal wetlands, and the vast river systems of the Río de la Plata basin.

Accessibility in Argentina

Argentina's National Law 24,314 mandates the elimination of architectural barriers and promotes the full social integration of people with disabilities. This legislation, enacted in 1994 and strengthened by subsequent regulations, requires that all public buildings, new private constructions, and public transportation systems be wheelchair accessible.

Buenos Aires' Subte (subway) system has been progressively implementing accessibility features across its lines, with newer stations equipped with elevators and tactile guidance systems. The city's Metrobús incorporates access ramps and designated spaces for wheelchairs. Many intersections feature audio signals for visually impaired pedestrians.

The National Institute of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR) works alongside disability advocacy organizations to develop accessibility standards. Many of Argentina's most iconic destinations now offer enhanced accessibility features — Iguazu National Park provides wheelchair-accessible trails and viewpoints, several wineries in Mendoza have adapted their facilities, and Buenos Aires' historic neighborhoods feature accessible walking tours.
